RAID Controller not supported with XP Pro???
Tried clean install of WinXP on the 20GB RAID partition. I do *NOT* press F6 and load the HPT370 drivers, because that always freezes the setup and I know XP should have HPT370 drivers built in. The DOS part of setup completes but after it reboots the computer just freezes right after the BIOS information screen

You will need to do the F6 driver install during XP installation IF your SATA drive is on the Silicon Image RAID, OR you are using the GigaRaid controller (aka ITE). There are 2 separate drivers, and you can install both at the same time - in two motions. If you are not using either of these you will not need to.

would do it the MS way and not the dell way.........do you have a driver for that raid? Hit F6 at the initial booting sequence when it tells you to....and feed that driver in. See if that will "find" the disks without first loading the dell thingy If at first you don't succeed.....start over and reinstall.
